24 Hour Flash Fiction Competition

Start your writing engines! The inaugural NZYWF Flash Fiction Competition is here! Think: the 48hr film festival but 24hrs and Flash Fiction.

Your story/ piece of flash fiction must include the following in some manner (feel free to interpretthis however you choose, don’t be afraid to get weird): Punga fern/sLight reflectingSomething blue makes an appearance Flash FictionThis competition defines flash fiction as: a piece of fiction containing no more than 200 words.

The NZYWF Flash Fiction Competition is open to all writers aged 15-35 anywhere in NZ, and is free to enter.The deadline is Friday 25 September 2020 at 6.30pm.
  • Any theme, provided you use the prompt that will be released at the launch on Thursday 24 September 2020 at 6:30pm.
  • Your story should not exceed 200 words.
  • Submit as many flash fiction stories as you like.
  • Please include the word count on the first page.
  • Your story should be written within the 24 hour time frame
  • All submissions should be the writer’s original work.
  • Authors retain all rights to their work.
Please submit your entry in one of the following formats: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) The results will be announced at the 24 Hour Flash Fiction Festival Award Ceremony on Sunday 27 September 2020 at 5.30pm and will be published here soon after.The winning author will be given the option to publish their story on our website.The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence can be entered into.
